SPINAL PARASYMPATHETIC FIBRES IN THE CERVICAL SYMPATHETIC

1. Vasodilatation of the tongue is produced by the spinal parasympathetic.

2. The spinal parasympathetic vasodilator fibres for the tongue arise from the VIII. cervical and I. thoracic segments through their dorsal roots. Sometimes the VII. cervical segment is also involved. The centres for the vasoconstrictors of the tongue seem to extend much more widely.

3. These vasodilator fibres pass for the most part through the posterior crus of the Ansa of Vieussens.

4. This vasodilator effect is not interrupted by the application of 2 per cent. nicotine solution to the superior cervical ganglion.
