TWO SIMPLE HEART-OXYGENATOR CIRCUITS FOR BLOODFED HEARTS

C. Lovatt Evans 1, F. Grande 1, and Fong Yen Hsu 1

1 The Department of Physiology and Biochemistry, University College, London

An apparatus is described which enables the isolated dog's heart to pump blood under normal mechanical conditions for several hours.

We wish to thank the Government Grant Committee of the Royal Society for a grant to one of us (C. L. E.), out of which the cost of animals was met; also Mr V. C. Tindley for technical help in the construction and maintenance of the apparatus.
