EFFECT OF ASPHYXIA ON THE SINUS AND CONDUCTING TISSUE OF THE FROG'S HEART

G. Kingisepp 1

1 The Department of Pharmacology, University of Edinburgh

1. Asphyxia of both the normal and of the iodo-acetic acid poisoned sinus causes alterations in the frequency which closely resemble the changes produced by asphyxia on the mechanical response of the ventricle.

2. Asphyxia in the normal heart produces a great decrease in the rate of a-v conduction, whilst in the I.A.A. poisoned heart asphyxia produces less interference with conduction. This difference is probably due to the production of lactic acid in the former case and its absence in the latter case.

I wish to thank Professor A. J. Clark for his advice and help throughout this investigation.
