THE EFFECT OF INSULIN ON THE SECRETION OF GASTRIC JUICE IN THE GOAT

K. J. Hill 1

1 The Physiological Laboratory, Department of Physiology and Histology, The University of Liverpool

1. In goats provided with innervated pouches of the abomasum, the intramuscular injection of insulin was followed by a depression of volume-rate and of the free and total acidity of the secretion.

2. No relation was observed between the degree of hypoglycæmia and the depression of gastric secretion, or between the degree of hypoglycæmia produced by a given dose of insulin and the previous duration of fasting.

Note:

I am indebted to Professor R. A. Gregory for his assistance in preparing the abomasal pouches, and to the Agricultural Research Council for a grant to Professor Gregory from which the expenses of this investigation were defrayed.
