A COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTS OF CERTAIN PHOSPHATIDES AND OF CHYLOMICRA ON PLASMA COAGULATION IN THE PRESENCE OF RUSSELL'S VIPER VENOM

J. C. F. Poole and D. S. Robinson

1. Ethanolamine phosphatide and rat chylomicra accelerate plasma coagulation in the presence of Russell's viper venom.

2. Serine phosphatide and inositol phosphatide do not show this activity.

3. It is suggested that the coagulant action of chylomicra may be due to their ethanolamine phosphatide content.

Note:

We are indebted to Professor Sir Howard Florey, F.R.S., for advice and encouragement. We thank Dr. R. M. C. Dawson, Dr. R. Dils and Dr. J. N. Hawthorne for gifts of cephalin preparations. We are grateful to Mr. H. W. Wheal for technical assistance.
