THE EFFECT OF HYPOPHYSECTOMY, ADRENALECTOMY AND ACTH ADMINISTRATION ON COMPENSATORY RENAL HYPERTROPHY IN RATS
1 Department of Physiology and the Clinical Endocrinology Research Unit (M. R. C.), University of Edinburgh
The effect of the adrenal glands and ACTH on compensatory renal hypertrophy has been investigated in seventy-three male albino rats. Compensatory renal hypertrophy has been found to occur as significantly in the bilaterally adrenalectomized rats as in the normal ones, but was absent in hypophysectomized rats; administration of potent ACTH failed to make it apparent in the latter animals.
