THE AUTORADIOGRAPHIC LOCALIZATION OF CALCITONIN GENE-RELATED PEPTIDE AND SUBSTANCE P RECEPTORS IN HUMAN FALLOPIAN TUBE

The binding of [125I] humancalcitonin gene-related peptide (hCGRP) and [125I]Bolton-Hunter-labelled substance P (BH-SP) to human fallopian tube tissue sections was characterized and the respective binding sites were localized by light-microscopic autoradiography. The hCGRP binding sites were associated with the muscularis, lamina propria and vascular smooth muscle, the latter being the most intensely labelled. BH-SP binding sites were associated only with blood vessels. This labelling was intense, and appeared to be restricted to the vascular endothelium. These results suggest that calcitonin gene-related peptide and substance P may act together to regulate local blood flow and plasma extravasation.
